Ever take vacation time, and end up sick during your time off? Ever have a miserable vacation because of it? Or worse, ever have to cancel travel so you could stay home and get well? Yes, this does happen, and it is unfortunate. But, if you lived in the European Union, never fear! The ruling has been handed down that if you’re sick for vacation, you can take another.

Yes, you read that right. In spite of the fact that the EU economy is suffering, the courts there believe that the Europeans are “entitled” to down time. This is nothing new, of course. It is a standing philosophy there that workers perform better if they are given specific periods of time for rest and relaxation. But, that is pretty much how things are there – entitlements abound.
But, here’s hoping that Obama didn’t read the New York Times today. It might give him his next big idea. In his twisted mind, no doubt he would think it would be a good idea to guarantee a month off for all American workers – fully paid, of course. It would NEVER cross his mind that this would undoubtedly have a negative effect on GDP, and he’d probably have the inimitable gall to suggest that this new entitlement should be funded by higher taxes on big business. Or even better, he might even say that companies simply have to pay all their employees for one month without them showing up to work!

Ok. Enough of that! For now, I guess we all can sit back and laugh a little at the insanity in Europe, and hope that sort of change doesn’t happen here!
